Customer Testimonial Video Case Study: Fuse 2

Fuse 2 Communications came to Rune Films for a customer testimonial video, built around one of their customers in Leeds. They had produced one before and shared it as the reference. The brief was not to copy it. It was to beat it.

What began as a single film became four commissioned pieces across two shoots, including a partner event in London.

This project is a strong example of customer testimonial video production used to build credibility with a partner channel, and of how one well-run shoot day can produce more than one usable film.

The Approach

strategy

Creative

We quoted a full shoot day rather than a half day, and said why. A half day forces a choice between a well-crafted interview and enough B-roll to cut it properly, and testimonial films fall apart in the edit when there is nothing to cut away to. Fuse 2 agreed, and half the shoot day went on B-roll.

Fuse 2 chose the visual reference themselves from our existing work, picking out the interview treatment and the static shots. We built to it: interview-led, questions stripped out of the finished cut, the contributor’s answers carrying the narrative while the location work carries the texture. No voiceover, no presenter, nothing read to camera.

Production

The preparation is why the interview worked. A project kick-off call covered content, logistics and style with the marketing team. A short pre-shoot alignment call followed a week out. Then, unusually, we went direct to the contributor before the day and walked him through what B-roll actually is and what he would be asked, so he arrived prepared rather than ambushed. The shoot ran from a morning recce through the interview, then straight into location filming across the afternoon.

The Outcome

The first cut landed the same week. Fuse 2’s response, on seeing it, was to put it on the office television so the whole team could watch.

The film was signed off with minor amends and published across their channels. Their customer was equally happy with the result and agreed to be publicly credited. Fuse 2 asked to tag Rune Films in the announcement.

The clearest measure is what followed. A single testimonial brief grew into a company overview film for the customer, then a two-crew shoot at Fuse 2’s partner day in London, delivered as a 90 second event film and a 30 second social edit built around unscripted vox pops captured on the day.

The Challenge

Fuse 2 had produced a testimonial film before and shared it as the reference point, which set three problems running at once.

The person on camera was a technical director at a customer business, not a presenter, so whatever he said had to stand on its own. Fuse 2 wrote the interview questions but wanted them stripped out of the finished cut, meaning every answer had to work without the prompt in front of it. And the film had to do three jobs: market Fuse 2, give their customer something worth sharing, and recruit into a partner channel.

One day, one location, one contributor. There was no second attempt.

Why This Worked

Prepared, not ambushed. The contributor knew what was coming.

Half the day on B-roll. The edit had somewhere to go.

Accuracy protected. We would not imply a claim the footage did not support.

Customer testimonial video production, B2B customer story filming, on-location interview direction, B-roll and location cinematography, company overview edit, corporate event filming, event highlight film, social media cutdowns and full post production.

Project Scope

“Absolutely incredible! Extremely professional and used movie-grade equipment. Editing was rapid and top-tier. Looking forward to them filming our next work conference in London!”

Customer testimonial video FAQs

What makes a customer testimonial video actually persuasive?

Specifics. A customer who names the problem they had and what changed is worth more than one who calls the service excellent. That comes from good questions asked in a relaxed setting, not from scripting the answers.

Should the interviewer’s questions be left in the edit?

Usually not. Removing them makes the film feel like a person speaking rather than a person being interviewed, but it means the answers must be self-contained. Prepare the contributor to answer in full sentences that restate the question.

How long should a B2B customer story video be?

Two to three minutes for the main film, with shorter cutdowns for social. Anything longer needs a reason beyond having the footage available.

Do you need a full day to film a testimonial?

For anything intended to be reused, yes. A half day usually buys the interview and not the B-roll, and a testimonial with no cutaways is difficult to edit and dull to watch. One full day can also produce more than one film, as it did here.
